From Sunday evening, April 12 until Tuesday, April 14, a meeting of the Ukrainian Catholic bishops of North America was held in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the chancery office of the Archeparchy of Winnipeg, located on the banks of the historic Red River. The purpose of the meeting, besides strengthening the fellowship and fraternal bond among the bishops, was to share and discuss mutual challenges facing the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the North American diaspora, to celebrate successes and achievements, and to plan mutual strategies for the future.
The Metropolitan Archbishop of Winnipeg, Most Rev. Lawrence Huculak hosted the following bishops for the meeting: Archbishop Borys Gudziak (Archbishop of Philadelphia, Metropolitan of Ukrainian Catholics in the United States), Bishop David Motiuk (Edmonton Eparchy), Bishop Paul Chomnycky (Stamford Eparchy), Bishop Benedict Aleksiychuk (Eparch of St. Nicholas Eparchy in Chicago), Bishop Bryan Bayda (Eparchy of Toronto), Bishop Bohdan Danylo (St. Josaphat Eparchy in Parma), Bishop Andriy Rabiy (Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Winnipeg), Bishop Michael Smolinski (Eparchy of Saskatoon), and Bishop Michael Kwiatkowski, (Eparchy of New Westminster).
Over the course of two days the Canadian and American bishops held their own separate Metropolia meetings, culminating with a final plenary session with all the bishops together.
The bishops heard short reports on the work of Patriarchal Catechetical Commission (Bishop Michael Kwiatkowski), the Patriarchal Youth Commission (Bishop Bryan Bayda), and the Patriarchal Commission for Clergy (Bishop Bohdan Danylo).
Among other topics, the bishops also discussed challenges faced by recent Ukrainian immigrants in our two countries and ways in which our parish communities can assist and support them, and the current status of work on the English translation of the Divine Liturgy, which, hopefully, will be in the hands of the faithful by the end of this year.
The bishops also confirmed their support for two upcoming annual events: the SingCon Cantors Workshop, to be held at St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Parish in Brampton, ON from September 10-14, 2026, and the All-American Youth Pilgrimage to be held in Parma, OH from June 11-14, 2026. Lay participants from all our eparchies will be encouraged to participate in these events.
The meeting ended on Tuesday evening, April 14, 2026 with a testimonial banquet held in honor of Most Rev. Archbishop Lawrence Huculak on the occasion of his 75th birthday and 20th anniversary of his Installation as Metropolitan of Winnipeg. Over 400 bishops, priests, religious men, women, and lay faithful gathered to fete their beloved archpastor on this memorable occasion.
Українські католицькі єпископи Канади та США зібралися у Вінніпезі для обговорень та святкування

Від вечора неділі, 12 квітня, до вівторка, 14 квітня 2026 року, у Вінніпезі (провінція Манітоба) відбулася зустріч єпископів Української Греко-Католицької Церкви Північної Америки. Засідання проходили в канцелярії Вінніпезької архиєпархії, розташованій на берегах історичної річки Ред рівер.
Метою зустрічі, окрім зміцнення братерської єдності та взаємної підтримки між єпископами, було обговорення спільних викликів, що стоять перед Українською Греко-Католицькою Церквою в північноамериканській діаспорі, відзначення досягнень, та формування спільних стратегій на майбутнє.
Високопреосвященний владика Лаврентій Гуцуляк, митрополит Вінніпезький, приймав таких єпископів: архиєпископа і митрополита Філадельфійського Бориса Ґудзяка (Філадельфійська митрополія), єпископа Давида Мотюка (Едмонтонська Єпархія), єпископа Павла Хомницького (Стемфордська Єпархія), єпископа Венедикта Олексійчука (Єпархія Св. Миколая в Чікаго), єпископа Браяна Байду (Торонтонська Єпархія), єпископа Богдана Данила (Епархія Святого Йосафата в Пармі), єпископа Андрія Рабія (єпископа-помічника Вінніпезької Епархії), єпископа Михаїла Смолінського (Саскатунська Епархія) та єпископа Михаїла Квятковського (Нью-Вестмінстерська Епархія).
Упродовж двох днів канадські та американські єпископи провели окремі засідання своїх митрополій, які завершилися спільною пленарною сесією за участю всіх єпископів.
Єпископи заслухали короткі звіти про діяльність Патріаршої катехитичної комісії від єпископа Михаїла Квятковського, звіт про діяльність Патріаршої молодіжної комісії від єпископа Браяна Байди та звіт Патріаршої комісії у справах духовенства від єпископа Богдана Данило.
Серед інших питань єпископи обговорили труднощі, з якими стикаються нові українські іммігранти в обох країнах, а також можливості їх підтримки з боку парафіяльних громад. Вони також розглянули стан підготовки англомовного перекладу Божественної Літургії, який, як очікується, буде доступний для вірних до кінця цього року.
Єпископи підтвердили свою підтримку двом щорічним заходам: Дяківській конференції SingCon, яка відбудеться в парафії святого Іллі Української Греко-Католицької Церкви в Брамптоні (Онтаріо) з 10 по 14 вересня 2026 року, та Всеамериканській молодіжній прощі, яка відбудеться в Пармі (Огайо) з 11 по 14 червня 2026 року. Мирян з усіх єпархій заохочують брати участь у цих подіях.
Зустріч завершилася у вівторок увечері, 14 квітня 2026 року, урочистим бенкетом на честь високопреосвященного владики Лаврентія Гуцуляка з нагоди його 75-літнього Ювілею з дня народження та 20-ліття інтронізації як Митрополита Вінніпезького. Понад 400 єпископів, священників, монашества та мирян зібралися з цієї нагоди, щоб вшанувати свого дорогого архипастиря.

We find ourselves walking through “Bright Week”. A time when we want to celebrate the joyful, truly irrepressible news that Jesus Christ - the Son of God - IS risen from the dead and has conquered death and all sin and evil. Hopefully we have all read the Easter pastoral greetings from the Head of our Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav as well as the greeting from our Ukrainian Catholic Bishops of the Winnipeg Metroplia - and many other heartfelt greetings from other sources.
Perhaps many of us also tuned in online to the first Urbe et Orbi Paschal message of Pope Leo XIV and received his Easter blessing.
In the context of his Easter message, His Holiness also shared an invitation to join him this Saturday, April 11th, for an urgent and earnest prayer to our Lord for peace in our darkened world. The Holy Father has spoken up for an end to the war in Ukraine on several occasions. He has spoken encouraging words directly to His Beatitude Sviatoslav and the President of Ukraine. His call to prayer this Saturday, although presented with the due confidence of one who knows the power and love of Christ’s Gospel teaching, also seemed to be accompanied by a no-nonsense tone that suggested that we should “listen up”!
The war in Ukraine weighs heavily on our hearts and souls - experiencing some semblance of the exhaustion of those who remain in Ukraine (although we dare not compare our tiredness with those who are daily at the front). Pope Leo calls all people of good will to join him this Saturday to pray earnestly for an end to the war in Ukraine and for an end to the wars all over the world and for an end to the greed, fear and hatred that fuel those conflicts. The fear that Russia’s war on Ukraine and other wars would not only drag on but could spill out into the world is starting to appear justified.
At any time on Saturday and throughout the day... alone or with others, Let us turn our hearts continuously to prayer. In our churches with fellow parishioners, in our homes with family members and neighbours, on our knees, on our way behind the wheel, watching a livestream of the Vigil from St. Peter’s Square, or quietly praying a Rosary… what ever works for us…. But let us pray. This is an opportunity to pray with the world. This is the opportunity to pray now.
Let us join Pope Leo this Saturday April 11, 2026 for his VIGIL FOR PEACE!

[PS An historical reflection for April 11th - “The Soviet security services prepared a special plan for the liquidation of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. This plan carried out Stalin’s direct order and received his praise. On April 11, 1945 with no proof of guilt, The Servant of God Metropolitan Josyf Slipyj, the Blessed Hieromartyrs Bishops Hryhorii Khomyshyn, Nykyta Budka (the first Bishop for Canada), Mykola Charnetskyi and Ivan Liatyshevskyi were arrested. Soon after that the Bishops of Przemsyl, Josaphat Kotsylovsky and Hryhory Lakota, about 500 priests from all over western Ukraine, in addition, almost all eparchial officials, professors of the Theological Academy and other seminaries, well known pastors.” That happened some 81 years ago and ushered in over four decades of brutal persecution of the Church. Now with the Russian invasion beginning that persecution began again twelve years ago within any occupied territory.]

Дорогі Вірні Нью-Вестмінстерської Єпархії,
Христос Воскрес!
Ми переживаємо «Світлий тиждень». Час, коли прагнемо відсвяткувати радісну, воістину нестримну звістку про те, що Ісус Христос - Син Божий - воскрес із мертвих і переміг смерть, гріх і зло. Сподіваюся, що всі ми вже прочитали пасхальні пастирські послання Глави нашої Церкви, Його Блаженства Святослава, а також вітання наших українських католицьких єпископів Вінніпезької митрополії та багато інших щирих привітань.
Можливо, багато хто з нас також долучився онлайн до першого пасхального благословення Urbi et Orbi Папи Лева XIV та прийняв його великоднє благословення.
У контексті свого пасхального вітання Його Святість також поділився запрошенням приєднатися до нього цієї суботи, 11 квітня, для наполегливої та палкої молитви до нашого Господа за мир у нашому темному світі.
Святий Отець неодноразово закликав до припинення війни в Україні. Він звертався безпосередньо до Його Блаженства Святослава та Президента України зі словами підбадьорення.
Його заклик до молитви цієї суботи, хоча й виголошений з належною впевненістю людини, яка знає силу та любов Євангельського вчення Христа, також, здавалося, супроводжувався серйозним тоном, який натякав на те, що нам слід «прислухатися»!
Війна в Україні тяжіє на наших серцях і душах - ми відчуваємо певну втому тих, хто залишився в Україні (хоча ми не сміємо порівнювати нашу втому з тими, хто щодня на фронті). Страх, що війна росії проти України та інші війни не тільки затягнуться, але й можуть поширитися на весь світ, починає виправдовуватися. Папа Лев закликає всіх людей доброї волі приєднатися до нього цієї суботи, щоб палко молитися за припинення війни в Україні та за припинення війн у всьому світі, а також за припинення жадібності, страху та ненависті, які підживлюють ці конфлікти.
У будь-який час суботи та протягом дня... наодинці чи з іншими, давайте постійно звертати наші серця до молитви. У наших церквах з парафіянами, в наших домівках з членами родини та сусідами, на колінах, за кермом, долучаючись до трансляції чування з площі Святого Петра чи тихо молячись на вервиці… Вибираємо будь-які способи, які нам подобаються… Але давайте помолимося! Це наша можливість молитися зі світом. Це можливість молитися зараз.
Давайте приєднаємося до Папи Лева цієї суботи, 11 квітня 2026 року, на його ЧУВАННЯ ЗА МИР!

[P.S. Історичні роздуми на 11 квітня]
«Радянські спецслужби підготували спеціальний план ліквідації Української Греко-Католицької Церкви. Цей план виконав прямий наказ Сталіна та отримав його похвалу. 11 квітня 1945 року без жодних доказів провини було заарештовано митрополита Йосифа Сліпого, єпископів Григорія Хомишина, Микиту Будку (першого єпископа для Канади), Миколу Чарнецького та Івана Лятишевського.
Невдовзі після цього було заарештовано єпископів Перемишльського - Йосафата Коциловського та Григорія Лакоту, близько 500 священників з усієї Західної України, а також майже всіх єпархіальних чиновників, професорів Богословської академії та інших семінарій, відомих пасторів». Це сталося близько 81 року тому та започаткувало понад чотири десятиліття жорстоких переслідувань Церкви. Тепер, з початком російського вторгнення дванадцять років тому, ці переслідування знову почалися на будь-якій окупованій території.]
