The pastoral activity of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Parish of Surrey, BC, has been temporarily suspended until the eparchy is able to fully reassess the pastoral needs of the parish and the direction it will be able to take in serving the faithful that area of the lower mainland.
For a couple of years, now, since the parish sold its church and parish facilities, it has been seeking a stable place of worship and facilities at which it could grow the parish again. The parish had been holding Sunday afternoon services at Precious Blood Church and parish centre. However, this year it became apparent that the parish would be well-served by a break to refocus it goals and make concrete long-ter plans for the best possible ministry to newcomers and longtime parishioners in Surrey/Langley area.
Parish Priest, Fr. Mykhailo Postoliuk, who has now moved to Ontario, read a letter prepared by Bishop Michael on Sunday 26 July, informing the few people gathered, about the parish's closing and that they will be warmly welcomed at any of the other eparchial parish in the area. In the meantime, the Cathedral parish will assume any remaining parish matters - both administrative and pastoral.
