The Eparchy of New Westminster is deeply saddened by the passing of Bishop Stephen Chmilar on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Bishop of profound faith and unwavering dedication, Bishop Stephen leaves behind a legacy that has touched countless lives.
Before becoming a bishop, Father Stephen Chmilar served for several years in British Columbia, where he made a lasting impact on both clergy and the lay faithful. His warmth, humility, and commitment to Christ’s mission earned him the admiration and respect of the entire community. To this day, his contributions are fondly remembered, and his spirit lives on in the hearts of many.
One particularly enduring testament to his influence is the “Bishop Stephen Chmilar Camper of the Year Award,” presented annually to an outstanding participant in the St. Volodymyr Eparchial Summer Camp. This award continues to inspire the youth of our community, encouraging them to grow in their faith and commitment to the values Bishop Stephen embodied.
His presence and leadership will be dearly missed on Canada’s west coast, where his ministry touched the lives of so many. Yet, we take comfort in the belief that our loving Lord has welcomed him into His heavenly kingdom.
Вічна Йому Пам’ять!
May Bishop Stephen’s memory be eternal, and may his life’s work inspire us all to live with the same faith, love, and devotion he so beautifully exemplified.
